About Make Me

Make Me originated from an exhibition of contemporary design and craft that toured the work of 18 Manchester based designer-makers to Australia in 2000. The exhibition returned to Manchester in 2001 and Design Initiative presented an exciting programme of showcasing and selling events, seminars and workshops to accompany it in the form of Make Me Too…

Since then, each year, Design Initiative and partner organisations have brought various incarnations of Make Me to the streets of Manchester and, in 2007, to Preston. Make Me exists primarily to bring thrilling new design and craft to the attention of the general public, to enable them to meet the maker and buy unique gifts; from jewellery, ceramics and furniture to textiles, lighting and art; usually in time for Christmas.

Make Me has been a kaleidoscope of events, including temporary retail outlets, e-commerce sites, window displays, car-park based markets and gallery exhibitions dedicated to capturing the spirit of North West creativity and appealing directly to the dedicated buyer and all the details of the events are archived here. Thanks to all the designers and project managers who have participated to date and contributed to the success of the project.
